• 2023 GMC Yukon XL
  • 2024 GMC Yukon XL

Owner notification letters will be mailed out in early June 2025, so keep an eye on your mailbox if you own a GM vehicle.

Why Is GM Recalling So Many Vehicles?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that GM is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles because “the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.” They warn that “engine failure increases the risk of a crash,” so take this recall seriously and limit your vehicle use until you can get it repaired.

How Is GM Fixing This Engine Failure Problem?

GM “dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine.” They also say that “for vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install a new oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner’s manual.” Dealers will perform all these repairs free of charge, so don’t put off scheduling this maintenance.

If you have further questions, you can reach Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Be sure to state that you’re asking about GM recall number N252494000. You can also call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236; their number for this recall is 25V274000.

Chrysler Recalls 10,000 Trucks Over Incorrect Tire Pressure Warnings https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/chrysler-ram-1500-tire-pressure-recall/ Mon, 21 Apr 2025 21:28:03 +0000 https://www.familyhandyman.com/?p=669499 Chrysler just announced a recall of over 10,000 vehicles due to tire pressure issues. Find out if yours is one of them.

The post Chrysler Recalls 10,000 Trucks Over Incorrect Tire Pressure Warnings appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
You may not think about your tire pressure often. Unless you’re driving off-road or have a leak in your tire, you’re unlikely to hear the car’s warning chime alerting you to incorrect pressure. But if that system isn’t working properly, you may find yourself trying to remedy a confusing problem. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) recently announced that it’s recalling over 10,000 vehicles due to tire pressure issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also documented the recall. Read on to find out if you’re impacted by the recall and what to do if you are.

Which Vehicles Are Chrysler Recalling?

Chrysler is recalling over 10,000 2025 Ram 1500 vehicles. If you own one, keep an eye on your mailbox. The auto manufacturer will out owner letters in early May 2025. Until you know for sure whether or not your vehicle is affected, check your tire pressure manually to ensure that you’ve filled them properly. Don’t rely on the vehicle’s gauge or error messages, as they may be incorrect.

Why Is Chrysler Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, Chrysler is recalling these vehicles because “a software error may cause an incorrect tire inflation pressure message to display on the instrument panel.”

Knowing your tire pressure is very important. Too high, and you run the risk of a blowout. Too low and you’re likely to damage your rims. There’s a bit of a margin for error, but tire pressure issues should be remedied as soon as possible. If the software isn’t displaying the right, you may over- or underfill your tires. And improperly inflated tires can make a car accident more likely.

How Will Chrysler Fix This Issue?

Since this problem is a software issue, Chrysler “dealers will update the instrument panel software, free of charge.” Schedule your repair as soon as possible, and in the meantime check your tire pressure with a manual gauge to determine whether or not it’s at the correct level. You can consult your owner’s manual to determine what the right PSI is.

Ford Recalls Over 120,000 Cars in U.S. Over Brake Problems https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-recall-brake-fluid-leak/ Mon, 21 Apr 2025 14:56:34 +0000 Ford has just announced a recall of hundreds of thousands of its vehicles due to their dangerous brake problems.

The post Ford Recalls Over 120,000 Cars in U.S. Over Brake Problems appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Brake problems are something to take seriously. If your brakes don’t work right, you’re unable to accurately gauge your necessary stopping distance, and therefore, your risk of a crash is exponentially higher. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has documented several Ford recalls recently, and one of them is related to some of their vehicles’ brake systems; the recall impacts over 120,000 vehicles on the road. Additionally, this problem can sneak up on you, so you may not know you have brake problems until it’s too late.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

The NHTSA says that Ford is recalling over 120,000 vehicles with these brake problems, including the:

  • 2017 Ford F-150
  • 2018 Ford F-150
  • 2017 Ford Expedition
  • 2018 Ford Expedition
  • 2017 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2018 Lincoln Navigator

If you own one of these vehicles, keep an eye on your mailbox. Ford will mail out owner letters with further instructions in late April 2025. Exercise as much caution as possible until you’ve confirmed whether or not you own one of the impacted vehicles. Drive less if possible, go as slow on the road as is safe, and leave extra stopping distance between yourself and the vehicles ahead of you.

Why Is Ford Recalling Some of Its Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, the affected Ford vehicles have brake problems. The brake master cylinder isn’t sealed properly and “may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster.” In addition to costing you money, as you’ll have to replenish your brake fluid more often, “a brake fluid leak can cause reduced brake function and extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Ford’s Latest Recall Affects 105K Vehicles—See If Your Car Is on the List https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-expedition-lincoln-navigator-2025-recall/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 16:39:08 +0000 Ford has announced a new recall of hundreds of thousands of its vehicles due to a seat belt issue. Is yours one of them?

The post Ford’s Latest Recall Affects 105K Vehicles—See If Your Car Is on the List appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
There’s yet another Ford recall making headlines this week; this time impacting over 100,000 vehicles. The National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a brief explaining that Ford is recalling these vehicles due to a dangerous seat belt issue. Seat belts aren’t just practical safety equipment. They’re required by law in almost every state in the country. So, faulty belts are both a safety issue and a legal one. We’ve broken down the NHTSA brief to explain which Ford vehicles are being recalled and how to remedy the situation.

Which Ford Cars Are Being Recalled?

Over 105,000 Ford vehicles have this seat belt issue, including:

  • 2018 Ford Expedition
  • 2019 Ford Expedition
  • 2020 Ford Expedition
  • 2018 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2019 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2020 Lincoln Navigator

Owner notification letters will be sent out in mid-April 2025, so keep an eye on your mailbox to ascertain whether or not your vehicle is on the recall list.

Why Is Ford Recalling These Cars?

According to the NHTSA brief, hundreds of thousands of Ford vehicles have faulty seat belts. They cannot retract or extend properly because “the seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently lock the seat belt.”

Seat belts are a crucial safety feature in vehicles. They save lives and greatly reduce the chances of injury in the event of a car crash. The NHTSA says that “seat belts that do not retract or extend can fail to restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.”

If this problem sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Ford previously recalled many of these same vehicles last year. Unfortunately, “some vehicles in this recall that were previously inspected under recall 24V-099…did not have parts replaced will need to have this new recall remedy completed.”

Is There a Fix for This Seat Belt Issue?

Ford dealers will “inspect the seat belt retractor date codes and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary.” They’ll do this repair free of charge, so don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment to get your vehicle inspected. You don’t want to put this repair off at all, both for your own sake and your passengers.

If you have further questions, you can call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S31. You can also reach the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236; just be sure to explain that you’re asking about recall number 25V197000.

Ford Recalls 33,000+ Vehicles Over Potential Engine Fire Risk https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-bronco-escape-engine-fire-recall/ Fri, 04 Apr 2025 20:42:23 +0000 Ford recently announced that they're recalling tens of thousands of vehicles due to the risk of an engine fire.

The post Ford Recalls 33,000+ Vehicles Over Potential Engine Fire Risk appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Automotive manufacturers are no strangers to recalls. Ford has had several this year already. And now, there’s another one on the horizon. This time around, Ford is recalling tens of thousands of its vehicles due to a risk of engine fire. If you own one of the over 33,000 vehicles on the recall list, you’ll need to schedule a repair promptly. Car fires are wildly dangerous and should be taken extremely seriously.

Which Cars Is Ford Recalling?

Ford is recalling over 33,000 vehicles, including the:

  • 2020 Escape
  • 2021 Escape
  • 2022 Escape
  • 2021 Bronco Sport
  • 2022 Bronco Sport
  • 2023 Bronco Sport

If this recall issue feels familiar, that’s because it is. While it’s not been reported as a re-recall, many of the vehicles included in this list were also repaired under previous recalls due to the same issue. According to the NHTSA brief, many of these vehicles were “previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 22V-859 or 24V-187.” If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is on the list, keep an eye on your mailbox. Ford will be mailing out owner notification letters in late April 2025.

Why Is Ford Recalling These Cars?

According to the NHTSA brief, the affected Ford vehicles are at risk of engine fires. The fuel injectors in these vehicles may crack, causing them to leak fuel inside the engine compartment. “A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the risk of a fire,” the brief warns. If you own one of the affected vehicles, minimize your use of it as much as possible and exercise additional caution when you do need to be behind the wheel until you can get it repaired.

What Is the Proposed Fix?

In order to reduce the engine fire risk, Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software. As is standard with repairs due to recalls, dealers will complete this fix free of charge. Don’t delay setting up this repair; engine fires are nothing to ignore.

If you want more information about this recall, or are confused by anything in your owner letter, you can reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Clarify that you’re asking about recall number 25S21. You can also call the NHTSA at 888-327-4236 with any further questions. Their number for this recall is 25V165000.

Ford Issues Recall for Cars That May Move Forward While in Reverse https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-recall-reverse-gear-defect/ Wed, 26 Mar 2025 16:44:32 +0000 Ford vehicles are being recalled again; this time several hundred of their vehicles are at risk of driving forward while in reverse.

The post Ford Issues Recall for Cars That May Move Forward While in Reverse appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
In the latest round of recalls, Ford has announced a recall of hundreds of its vehicles due to the risk of the vehicle moving forward even when it is not in drive. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a brief warning to drivers about the dangers posed by the impacted vehicles to both their owners and other drivers on the road.

Gear shift issues are often indicative of transmission problems, so it’s important to remedy them as soon as you can. Transmission problems can get very expensive very quickly, and the faster you catch them, the better the outcome for your vehicle and your wallet.

Why Is Ford Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, in certain Ford vehicles “the transmission valve body may have been machined incorrectly.” Faulty transmission valve bodies “can cause reverse gear failure, or unexpected forward movement in reverse or neutral gear.” This is incredibly dangerous; any “unexpected vehicle movement increases the risk of a crash.”

If you have one of the vehicles listed below, avoid driving it as much as possible until you can get the vehicle repaired. If the vehicle lurches forward while you’re trying to reverse, you could hit a wall and damage your vehicle. And if you leave your car in neutral, you might roll into traffic or hit a pedestrian.

Which Ford Vehicles Are at Risk For Driving Forward?

The NHTSA reports that Ford is recalling nearly 300 vehicles including the:

  • 2024 F-150
  • 2025 F-150
  • 2024 Bronco
  • 2025 Bronco
  • 2024 Ranger
  • 2025 Mustang
  • 2025 Explorer
  • 2025 Aviator

If you own one of these vehicles, refrain from driving as much as possible until you can get this issue addressed. Ford will mail out owner letters in early May, so keep an eye on your mailbox.

Is There a Proposed Fix?

Ford dealers “will replace the transmission main control valve body, free of charge.” Don’t hesitate to get this issue remedied at your earliest convenience. While transmission issues are often expensive, this repair is free so you don’t need to wait and save up for the repair.

If you have further questions or don’t want to wait for your owner letter, you can reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332; clarify that you’re asking about recall number 25S19. You can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236; their recall number for this issue is 25V164000.

Tesla Recalls 46,000 Cybertrucks Amid Plummeting Stock https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/tesla-cybertruck-side-panel-recall/ Fri, 21 Mar 2025 14:40:08 +0000 Tesla faces another recall as its stock continues to plummet.

The post Tesla Recalls 46,000 Cybertrucks Amid Plummeting Stock appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Tesla is not having a good year. CNN reports the automotive manufacturer’s shares have dropped over 40% just since January amid a hailstorm of protests against the company’s CEO Elon Musk’s controversial and consequential foray into politics. Making matters stickier, Tesla’s Cybertrucks, notorious for their many safety issues, are plagued with recalls. Most recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall of the Cybertrucks due to faulty exterior panels that could cause crashes. Read on for all the details.

What’s Wrong With the Tesla Cybertrucks?

The NHTSA brief cautions that the impacted Cybertrucks may leave road hazards in their wake. “The cant rail, a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, can delaminate and detach from the vehicle,” the brief says. And if these detached panels land on the road, they increase the risk of a crash.

This Tesla recall is the eighth Cybertruck recall so far. While some of the recalls target smaller issues than others, all of them should be taken seriously. For example, an earlier Cybertruck recall concerned trunk beds that weren’t attached properly. So, you should read each announcement carefully to ensure that you’re getting the right problems addressed.

If you’re a Cybertruck owner, be mindful of this problem so that you don’t endanger yourself or others on the road. If you live somewhere where there are several Cybertrucks around, keep a lookout for these dropped panels when you’re driving around town.

Which Cybertrucks Are Tesla Recalling?

According to the NHTSA brief, the Tesla recall includes 46,096 2024-2025 Cybertruck vehicles. Tesla will be mailing out owner letters in mid-May 2025, so if you own a 2024 or 2025 Cybertruck, refrain from driving your vehicle as much as possible until you can get the problem repaired. If you’re friends with a Cybertruck owner, make sure that they’re aware of the recall so that they can take the appropriate steps to protect themselves and the people around them.

Is There a Proposed Fix?

Tesla says that service centers will replace the faulty cant rail assembly at no cost to customers. Make an appointment as soon as possible; having your car fall apart mid-drive is bad enough, but contributing to road debris also endangers the other drivers on the road with you.

If you want further information, you can call Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Clarify that you’re asking about recall number SB-25-10-001. You can also reach the NHTSA at 888-327-4236. Their number for this recall is 25V170000.

Volkswagen Recalls 180,000 Atlases for Loose Engine Covers https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/volkswagen-recalls-180000-atlases-for-loose-engine-covers/ Fri, 14 Mar 2025 16:40:33 +0000 The NHTSA just announced a recall of thousands of Volkswagen vehicles due to faulty engine covers. Find out if yours is affected.

The post Volkswagen Recalls 180,000 Atlases for Loose Engine Covers appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
It may still be early in 2025, but auto recall announcements show no signs of slowing down. And now there’s been another Volkswagen recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced that nearly 180,000 Volkswagen have faulty engine covers. If yours is on the list, you’ll have to take steps to protect yourself.

While no faulty vehicle component is a good thing, car part malfunctions related to the engine are certainly high on the list of dangerous ones. If you’re a Volkswagen driver, you need to take this recall seriously. Confirm whether or not your vehicle is one of the ones with this engine issue. And if it turns out that it is, you need to get the problem remedied at your earliest possible convenience.

Why Is Volkswagen Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, the impacted Volkswagen vehicles have faulty engine covers. These covers “may have been improperly installed after vehicle service,” which means they cannot do their job properly. Rather, there’s a chance these covers can “come loose and contact hot engine surfaces.”

A loose engine cover is a fire hazard. The NHTSA warns that if the engine cover comes into contact with hot surfaces in the engine, it can melt. Until you know for sure that your Volkswagen isn’t one of the nearly 180,000 on the recall list, exercise extreme caution.

Which Volkswagen Vehicles Have Faulty Engine Covers?

The NHTSA report states that 177,493 Volkswagen vehicles have these faulty engine covers, including the:

  • 2024 Atlas
  • 2024 Atlas Cross Sport
  • 2025 Atlas
  • 2025 Atlas Cross Sport

Volkswagen mailed out owner notification letters on March 7, 2025. If you own one of the above Volkswagen models, keep an eye on your mailbox. If you receive one of these letters, you’ll need to get the problem remedied as soon as possible.

Is There a Fix For This Problem?

Volkswagen says that “dealers will remove the engine cover, free of charge.” If you receive an owner notification letter, schedule your repair as soon as possible. The risk of an engine fire is not something to brush off. The repair will be free so there’s no reason to put it off.

If you have further questions after reading your letter or don’t want to wait, you can call Volkswagen customer service at 800-893-5298 and ask about recall number 10X5. Alternatively, you can call the NHTSA at 888-327-4236. If you call the NHTSA, be sure to reference recall number 25V100000.

20,000 Subaru Foresters Recalled Over Vehicle Stability Concerns https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/subaru-recall-20000-vehicles/ Fri, 07 Mar 2025 20:36:40 +0000 Subaru has announced a recall of over 20,000 vehicles due to an issue with certain wheels. Find out if yours is affected.

The post 20,000 Subaru Foresters Recalled Over Vehicle Stability Concerns appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
It seems like there are always several vehicle recalls in the headlines at once — and no automotive manufacturer is exempt. Subaru recently announced a recall of over 20,000 vehicles due to a wheel defect. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released a brief detailing the specifics of the recall. We’ve parsed it for you so that you can find all the important information quickly.

Even if it sounds like a hassle, you should always take recalls seriously. This is true even if the issue sounds relatively minor or if the total number of recalled vehicles is low. It’s never worth gambling with your own safety, and you should never gamble with the safety of your loved ones or the other drivers on the road.

Why Is There a Subaru Recall?

According to the NHTSA brief, over 20,000 Subaru vehicles have wheels that “may have been manufactured with an incorrectly specified lug seat surface.” This defect can lead to “the wheel being improperly attached and cause a loss of vehicle stability.”

If a “loss of vehicle stability” sounds scary, that’s because it’s very dangerous. The NHTSA warns that “a loss of vehicle stability increases the risk of a crash.” Don’t delay scheduling a repair if your vehicle is on the recall list. And exercise caution if you need to use your vehicle before you can get it repaired.

Which Vehicles Are Subaru Recalling?

According to the NHTSA recall brief, the Subaru recall applies to 2025 Foresters that are “equipped with 18″ aluminum alloy wheels.” Subaru mailed out owner letters February 28, 2025, so if you own one of the 2025 Forester that’s on the list for this recall, you should be receiving your letter soon. Until you know for certain, exercise caution if you need to drive your vehicle.

What Is Subaru Doing to Fix This?

Subaru announced that dealers will inspect the wheel on all vehicles included in this recall. If necessary, they will replace defective ones. Dealers will do both the inspection and any necessary replacement work free of charge, so make an appointment at your earliest possible convenience.

If you have any further questions not answered here or in your owner letter, you can reach Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Be sure to state that you’re asking about recall number WRB-25. You can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety at 1-888-327-4236; ask about NHTSA recall number 25V033000.

Ford Recalls 35,000 Cars Due To Led Light Fire Hazard – Is Yours on the List? https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-lincoln-navigator-recall/ Wed, 05 Mar 2025 21:59:19 +0000 Ford issued a recall affecting thousands of vehicles because of a potential fire risk. Here's what you need to do to stay safe.

The post Ford Recalls 35,000 Cars Due To Led Light Fire Hazard – Is Yours on the List? appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
There are certain parts of cars we just expect to function as expected with very little intervention from you as the driver—LED lights throughout the car being one of them. Even if one of your lights does fry out, you’d expect it to simply stop working, not, let’s say, set on fire. Unfortunately, that’s what some drivers of Ford vehicles could experience.

Ford announced in February that it is recalling tens of thousands of vehicles because of faulty LED lighting wiring that could increase the risk of a fire. Read on to learn all about the recall, including what cars are impacted and what to do if you own one.

What Ford Cars Are Being Recalled?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, this recall includes 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigators. The total number of cars impacted is 35,328. Owners can expect letters from Ford informing them of the recall by the end of March.

Why Are These Cars Being Recalled?

These Lincoln Navigators are being recalled because they could have faulty exterior mirror assemblies. The report states, “The light-emitting diode (LED) logo lamps within the driver and passenger side exterior mirror assemblies may short circuit without tripping the short detection threshold.”

The report details that the potting material on the LED logo lamps did not properly adhere to the wire, creating gaps where water or conductive fluid could penetrate the LED lamp printed circuit board, causing corrosion. Over time, this could lead to a short and increased fire risk.

What To Do If My Ford Is Recalled

Ford or Lincoln dealers will disconnect the wire to the LED logo lamp free of charge. Additionally, owners who paid to repair their lights before the recall was announced may be eligible for reimbursement.

To get more information or set up an appointment for your car to be serviced, you can contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S08.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that nearly 60,500 Volkswagen vehicles have a gear issue and are included in an important recall.

If you own an Audi or Volkswagen, we’ve broken down the news for you so that you can easily read why the recall is happening, which specific vehicles are affected, and what to do if you own one.

Why Is Volkswagen Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA, the Volkswagen vehicles included in this recall have a gear issue. The instrument panel isn’t displaying the transmission gear lever indicator correctly. This means you might be unable to tell if your vehicle is parked. Because of this, “these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, ‘Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect.'”

If you haven’t properly shifted into park when you pull into a parking space, you run the risk of having it roll. Applying your parking brake is a good habit, but relying only on one brake to keep your car from rolling away and causing an accident is unwise.

Which Volkswagen Vehicles Are Recalled?

Nearly 60,500 Volkswagen vehicles have this gear problem and are subject to the recall. Impacted vehicles include the:

  • 2021 Volkswagen ID.4
  • 2022Volkswagen ID.4
  • 2023 Volkswagen ID.4
  • 2022 Audi Q4 e-Tron
  • 2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron
  • 2022 Audi Q4 e-Tron Sportback
  • 2024 Audi Q4 e-Tron Sportback

Volkswagen will mail out owner letters in late April 2025, so if you own one of the aforementioned vehicles, keep an eye out for that piece of mail.

What’s the Proposed Fix?

Volkswagen says that “dealers will update the brake control unit software, free of charge.” Do not put this repair off any longer than necessary. It’s good practice to put your parking brake on any time you turn your car off, but it’s best not to leave that as your only fail-safe.

If you want more information or don’t want to wait for your letter, you can call the manufacturers directly. Volkswagen can be reached at 1-800-893-5298; their number for this recall is 97H3. Audi’s number is 1-800-253-2834, and you’ll want to ask about recall number 454R. You can also call the NHTSA at 888-327-4236 to ask. If you contact them, you’ll need to reference recall number 25V120000.

Here’s Why Ford Had to Recall Hundreds of Mustangs (Again) https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/heres-why-ford-had-to-recall-hundreds-of-mustangs-again/ Mon, 03 Mar 2025 19:25:30 +0000 Ford has announced a re-recall of previously repaired vehicles. The original repair did not adequately resolve the issue.

The post Here’s Why Ford Had to Recall Hundreds of Mustangs (Again) appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
You’ve heard of automotive recalls, but have you ever heard of a re-recall? If you’re a Ford owner, your vehicle may currently be included in a re-recall. Automotive companies issue these when the problem in the previous recall hasn’t been adequately addressed. They don’t always include every single vehicle from the original; sometimes, only a handful have a persisting issue. But regardless, it’s good to keep up to date with the news just to be sure that you don’t miss any updates.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) originally recalled over 30,000 Ford Mustangs in 2024 due to a steering issue. It’s now come to light that the original fix did not sufficiently address the problem in all of the vehicles, and so the company is re-recalling some of those vehicles.

Why Is There a Re-Recall of Ford Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, “the secondary steering torque sensor may not be calibrated properly.” Incorrectly calibrated torque sensors “can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.” Losing control of your steering wheel is a nightmare. The NHTSA warns that “a steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.”

If your Ford vehicle was recalled in 2024 for a steering wheel issue, it may be part of this re-recall. Ford has said that they’ll be mailing out owner letters in late March 2025, so keep an eye on your mailbox.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Included in This Re-Recall?

The good news about a re-recall is that if your vehicle wasn’t included in the first recall, it’s almost certainly not included in the following one. In this case, the Ford re-recall is targeting 2022-2023 Ford Mustang vehicles that were originally included in Ford recall number 24V-493. The NHTSA number for that recall was 24V493000. Of the original 30,000 recalled vehicles, 332 are included in this re-recall.

How Will Ford Repair These Vehicles?

Ford has said that affected owners can take their vehicles to dealers for a power steering control module (PSCM) software update at no cost. Make plans to take your vehicle in as soon as possible. A rogue steering wheel is incredibly dangerous to you and everyone around you on the road.

You can reach out to Ford Customer Service at 866-436-7332. Be sure to mention that you’re calling about recall number 25S11. You can also call the NHTSA at 888-327-4236. If you take this route, clarify that you want more information about recall number 25V096000.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Leads to Recall of 60,000 Boilers https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/triangle-tube-boiler-carbon-monoxide-recall/ Fri, 28 Feb 2025 17:55:31 +0000 https://www.familyhandyman.com/?p=662841 Triangle Tube boilers may leak carbon monoxide, which can be life threatening. See if you're impacted by this recall now.

While carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are becoming more common in households, the fear of falling victim to carbon monoxide poisoning remains. The odorless but lethal gas claims roughly 1,000 lives every year, according to the National Institute of Health. That’s why anyone with a Triangle Tube boiler should be aware of a recent recall impacting some of the company’s gas boilers. The recall concerns a defect that may cause the boilers to release carbon monoxide. Read on to learn which boilers are impacted and how to stay safe if you have one of the affected products.

What Triangle Tube Boilers Are Being Recalled?

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission brief on the recall, some of Triangle Tube’s Prestige Solo, Prestige Excellence, and Aerco Esteem condensing gas boilers manufactured between December 2011 and April 2019 are part of this recall. Approximately 60,000 units are included in total. Below, you can find the serial numbers of all the models being recalled:

    • PEA078169
  • Aerco Esteem

Why Are These Boilers Being Recalled?

These boilers are being recalled because, due to delayed ignitions or component damage, the boilers can release carbon monoxide, “posing a risk of serious injury or death,” according to the recall brief.

Triangle Tube reports that two people have died due to CO poisoning associated with these boilers and there are 25 reports of CO leaks from the recalled boilers, which is why it’s imperative you take action immediately if you have one of the impacted boilers.

What To Do If You Have a Recalled Triangle Tube Boiler

If you own one of the recalled boilers, you should immediately contact Triangle Tube to schedule an inspection, and if applicable, they will install a brand new boiler free of charge.

Since there may be a delay before your inspection and/or repair, Triangle Tube urges anyone who is using one of the recalled boilers to ensure they have functioning CO detectors “on each level of their homes and outside sleeping areas.” If you do not have a CO detector, Triangle Tube will ship you one free of charge.

To contact Triangle Tube’s customer service to schedule an inspection or request a CO detector, you can call them at 877-574-5036 or email them at productrecall@triangletube.com.

Tesla Issues Recall for 376,000 Vehicles Over Steering Issue https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/tesla-model-3-y-power-steering-recall/ Fri, 28 Feb 2025 15:07:48 +0000 Tesla has announced a recall of over 376,000 vehicles due to a power steering issue. Find out if you need to be concerned.

The post Tesla Issues Recall for 376,000 Vehicles Over Steering Issue appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Tesla is recalling over 376,000 of its vehicles due to a power steering issue. Power steering makes your car easy to maneuver. You probably don’t think about it on a daily basis. However, you’d notice immediately if it ever stopped working because you’d feel a ton of resistance when you try to turn your wheel. It’s bad enough when this issue arises at home in your garage, but it’s worse when the power steering goes out in the middle of a drive. If you own a Tesla, take extra precautions until you know for sure that yours isn’t on the recall list.

Why Are Certain Teslas Being Recalled?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration brief, certain Tesla vehicles have a power steering issue. In the impacted vehicles, “the printed circuit board for the electronic power steering assist may experience an overstress condition.” If this happens, it can cause “a loss of power steering assist when the vehicle reaches a stop and then accelerates again.”

If you own one of the affected Teslas, refrain from driving it as much as possible until the issue is resolved. The NHTSA warns that “a loss of power steering assist can require greater steering effort, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Which Tesla Vehicles Have a Power Steering Issue?

This recall affects over 376,000 Tesla vehicles. It impacts 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles that used software before 2023.38.4. If you own a 2023 Model 3 or Model Y and are unsure what software your vehicle is using, keep an eye on your mailbox. Tesla will mail out owner letters with more information in late March 2025.

Is There a Proposed Fix?

Tesla says that an over-the-air (OTA) software update is available to remedy the power steering issue. This update is free to owners, so be sure to update your vehicle as soon as the OTA update becomes available.

If you have further questions, you can call Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Just be sure to clarify that you want to know more about recall SB-25-00-004. You can also call the NHTSA directly at 1-888-327-4236. If you opt for this route, specify that you’re asking about recall number 25V092000.

40,000 Toyota and Lexus Vehicles Recalled — Is Yours On the List? https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/toyota-lexus-seatbelt-recall/ Thu, 20 Feb 2025 22:09:50 +0000 Several thousand Toyota and Lexus vehicles are being recalled due to a seat belt issue. Find out if yours is one of them.

]]>
Another auto recall headline has hit the news cycle. Toyota has announced a recall of certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to a dangerous seat belt issue. Over 40,000 vehicles are included on the list this time around. If you own a Toyota or Lexus, read the following information carefully. This way, you can take adequate precautions and get your vehicle repaired as quickly as possible.

Seat belt laws have been on the books for decades now because they save lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warns that “a damaged seat belt may not adequately restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.” So take this recall seriously and follow all instructions to the letter. Even if you’re driving safely, there might be a reckless driver or a hazard on the road that could cause an accident. And a faulty seat belt can’t promise the same level of safety as an operable one.

Why Are These Toyota and Lexus Vehicles Being Recalled?

According to the NHTSA announcement, “the second-row center seat belt webbing may be damaged” in the Toyota and Lexus vehicles impacted by this recall. This defect means that the vehicles “fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, ‘Seat Belt Assemblies.'”

Which Toyota and Lexus Vehicles Have a Seat Belt Issue?

The recall affects over 40,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, including:

  • 2024 Lexus RX350
  • 2024 Lexus RX350 Hybrid
  • 2024 Lexus RX500 Hybrid
  • 2025 Lexus RX35
  • 2025 Lexus RX350 Hybrid
  • 2025 Lexus RX500 Hybrid
  • 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid
  • 2025 Lexus NX250
  • 2025 Lexus NX350
  • 2025 Lexus NX350 Hybrid

If you own any of the vehicles on this list, refrain from having passengers in the second row until you’ve fixed the seat belt issue. Owner letters with further instructions will be mailed out in late March 2025.

Is There a Repair for This Toyota and Lexus Seat Belt Issue?

Toyota dealerships will inspect and replace the seat belts free of charge. Once you’ve received your owner letter, you can make the appointment and get the seat belt issue repaired as soon as possible. Don’t put this repair off; a faulty seat belt can be deadly.

If you have further questions or don’t want to wait until late March or your owner letter, you can reach out to Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Be sure to specify that you’re asking about recalls 25TA03 and 25LA03. You can also call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236; their number for this recall is 25V059000.

Drivers often take for granted that the seat belts in our cars will just work. Unfortunately, that may not be the case for some travelers driving Toyota minivans. There is an important recall impacting Toyota Siennas that should not go unaddressed. Read on to learn all about the recall, whether or not your car is on the list, and what to do to stay safe if it is.

What Toyota Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

This recall affects Toyota Sienna minivans from 2021 through 2025. Approximately 168,000 vehicles are impacted. Owners can expect to receive letters about the recall in the mail by mid-April 2025.

Why Are These Toyotas Being Recalled?

According to Toyota’s press release about the recall, these cars are being recalled because “the bolts connecting the split 60/40 third-row seat backs to the recliner assemblies may not have been tightened to specification, causing the subject vehicles to not meet certain safety standards.”

Because of this, the seat belts in the impacted Sienna minivans may not perform as intended, which could lead to injury.

What To Do If My Toyota Is Recalled

If your vehicle is impacted by this recall, Toyota dealers will tighten the bolts on the third-row seat assemblies to proper specification at no charge to the driver.

To see if your vehicle is impacted, visit Toyota’s recalls website and enter your VIN or license plate information. If you have questions regarding the recall and how to set up an appointment for your car to be serviced, contact Toyota customer support by calling 1-800-331-4331.

1 Million Igloo Coolers Recalled Over Risk of Severed Fingertips https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/igloo-cooler-recall/ Tue, 18 Feb 2025 21:31:25 +0000 Nearly 1 million Igloo coolers are being recalled because they pose a threat of injury. If you own one of these products, exercise caution.

The post 1 Million Igloo Coolers Recalled Over Risk of Severed Fingertips appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Having a cooler on hand makes all kinds of outings much easier. Whether it’s a picnic date or a beach party, it’s the most efficient way to keep your food and drinks both cold and portable. But a defective cooler can cause injuries and will suck all the fun out of your trip instantly. No one wants to take a surprise trip to the emergency room in the middle of an event. Unfortunately, nearly one million Igloo coolers are being recalled because they pose an injury hazard.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) announced the recall on Feb. 13, 2025. The agency warns consumers to exercise caution and get the problem remedied as soon as possible. If you own an Igloo product, pay close attention and check your own cooler’s model number against the recall list to confirm whether or not yours is one of the defective ones.

Why Are These Igloo Coolers Being Recalled?

According to the USCPSC, the tow handles are the problem. If you’re using one of these Igloo coolers, you may get your fingertip caught between the handle and the body of the cooler. This is more than just an uncomfortable pinch; rather, the dangerous handle poses “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.” There have been 12 reports of injuries so far, which include “fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.”

Which Igloo Coolers Are Being Recalled?

Over one million Igloo coolers are being recalled in the United States. Additionally, there are another 70,000 in Canada and Mexico. More specifically, Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler models manufactured before January 2024. These coolers were available both in stores and online between January 2019 and January 2025. If you purchased an Igloo cooler in that time frame, yours may be one of the ones on the recall list.

Is There a Remedy For the Issue?

Fortunately, there is a fix for this problem. You can replace the handle to eliminate the injury risk. Do this as soon as you’re able to; especially if you need to use the cooler regularly. The USCPSC urges anyone who owns one of these coolers to immediately stop using it until they’ve remedied the problem. To get a replacement handle, you should reach out to Igloo directly. They will send you a new one at no charge.

GM Recalls 71,000 Trucks Over Dangerous Grille Defect https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/gmc-sierra-grilles-recall/ Fri, 14 Feb 2025 19:24:40 +0000 General Motors, LLC just announced that they are recalling tens of thousands of vehicles. The recalled GM cars have issues with their grills.

The post GM Recalls 71,000 Trucks Over Dangerous Grille Defect appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
While some auto recalls are massive, encompassing hundreds of thousands of vehicles (if not more), others are much more narrowly focused. One of the latest ones falls into that latter category. On Feb. 6, 2025, General Motors (GM) announced a recall of nearly 71,000 of their vehicles due to issues with their grills. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a brief detailing the issues with the impacted vehicles.

While this recall is smaller than some of the large ones issued recently, the problem is still very serious. So, if you own a GM vehicle, be sure to read the following information carefully and note the key points so that you can keep yourself and your family safe, as well as other drivers on the road.

Which GM Vehicles Are Recalled?

GM is recalling nearly 71,000 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles with chrome front grille deflectors. If you have a 2022 Sierra, keep an eye on your mailbox. GM will mail owner letters with more information and further instructions in late March 2025.

Why Is GM Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, the problem lies with these vehicles’ grills. More specifically, “the attachments that hold the front grille deflectors in place may fracture, resulting in grille detachment.” Having anything unsecured on your vehicle is dangerous. That’s why knowing how to safely tie down large loads is so important. But while you can plan for hauling, it’s hard to plan for your vehicle falling apart.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what makes GM’s faulty grills so dangerous. The NHTSA warns that”a detached front grille deflector may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.” Avoid driving your vehicle as much as possible until the problem has been remedied.

How Is GM Fixing the Grills?

According to the NHTSA brief, “the remedy is currently in development.” The owner’s letters will have further information, so be sure to read yours carefully when it arrives. If you want more information than the information provided in the letter or you don’t want to wait, you can call GM customer service at 1-800-462-8782. When you do, reference recall number N242490120. You can also call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236. If you do, specify that you’re asking about recall number 25V060000.

Several different models fail to meet safety standards.

Cars, trucks, SUVs; no automobile is immune to recalls. And while it can feel overwhelming to keep up with the news, it’s important that you stay informed. As of Feb. 6, 2025, Toyota has just announced multiple recalls of over a hundred thousand of its vehicles. The affected cars span multiple models and years, so read all of the information carefully. You don’t want to miss crucial safety details in case you own one of the vehicles included on the list.

We’ve broken them down to provide you with the important information as easily as possible. If you own one of the models on the list, you can make an appointment to have the problem remedied as soon as possible.

Which Toyota Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

According to Toyota’s press release, there are currently two Toyota recalls impacting a total of over 140,000 vehicles. The first is a recall of Tacomas, including:

  • 2024 Tacoma 4-wheel drive vehicles equipped with 16-inch brakes and 17-inch Toyota wheels
  • 2025 Tacoma 4-wheel drive vehicles equipped with 16-inch brakes and 17-inch Toyota wheels

The second recall concerns Camry and Lexus vehicles such as:

  • 2024 Lexus RX
  • 2025 Lexus RX
  • 2025 Toyota Camry
  • 2025 Lexus NX

Why Is Toyota Recalling These Vehicles?

Toyota’s brief about the Tacoma recall warns that the impacted vehicles have brake problems. More specifically, the rear brake hoses are at risk of serious damage “if there is enough build-up of mud and dirt inside the rear wheels.” This build-up is primarily from off-road conditions. If the damage is bad enough, it “can result in a brake fluid leak, increasing the risk of crash.”

Meanwhile, the Camry and Lexus recall is due to a seatbelt issue. According to this brief, “the second-row center seatbelt of the subject vehicles may have been damaged during manufacturing.”As a result of the damage, the seatbelts are not in compliance with the relevant strength requirements. Toyota warns that “if an occupant is belted in the second-row center seat with a damaged seatbelt, it may increase the risk of injury during certain crashes.”

What Is the Remedy?

Toyota has announced that dealerships will conduct the necessary repairs free of charge for both recalls. Owner letters will be sent out in early April 2025 for both recalls, so if you own any of the vehicles listed, keep an eye on your mailbox for further instructions.

If you own an LG electric stove range, it may be one of the nearly 500,000 that have been recalled recently. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received reports that the impacted stoves pose a fire risk. In fact, there have already been several reported fires. You should check your device immediately to see if it’s on the list. And if it is, you’ll need to exercise caution when using it. You should also be diligent about confirming that it’s off when not in use.

Whether you own one of the recalled stoves or not, you should always take the following basic safety steps. Always double-check that you have turned off all of the burners when they’re not in use. Additionally, you should never leave flammable items on the range. And, while it’s impossible to control all of the time, you should do your best to keep children and pets away from the appliance as much as possible.

Why Are LG Stove Ranges Being Recalled?

According to the CPSC brief, “front-mounted knobs on the recalled ranges can be activated by accidental contact by humans or pets.” The agency has received “at least 86 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs.” The unintended activation incidents have resulted in at least eight minor injuries so far.

Additionally, consumers have reported 28 fires involving the ranges so far. Damages and losses from the fires include “extensive property damage totaling over $340,000.” Tragically, “there have been reports of three fires involving pet deaths.”

Which Stove Ranges Are LG Recalling?

The recall targets LG’s slide-in and freestanding electric ranges. To determine whether or not you own one of the appliances on the list, you’ll have to check your model number against the list on the CPSC site. To find your stove’s model number, check inside the oven door or the storage drawer at the bottom of the appliance.

What to Do If You Own a Recalled LG Stove Range

If your LG stove range is on the recall list, the CPSC recommends that you contact LG. The company will send you a free warning label and placement instructions. The warning label “reminds consumers to use the Lock Out/Control Lock function on the range control panel to disable activation of the heating elements when the range is not in use.”

If you drive a Ford Bronco, you need to be aware of a recently announced recall impacting the popular SUV. The recall involved a critical issue with the vehicle’s rear shock absorbers that could lead to road hazards or even a crash. Ahead, learn all there is to know about the issue so far—your safety could depend on it.

Why Are Ford Vehicles Being Recalled?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration brief on the recall, “long flange rear shock absorbers in affected vehicles may experience corrosion between the external reservoir, mounting flange, and the damper body, resulting in separation of the external reservoir.” If a rear shock were to separate from one of the affected cars, it could result in road hazards and lead to a crash.

While this issue is serious, thankfully, Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from it.

What Ford Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

This recall impacts 149,449 Ford Bronco SUVs from model years 2021 through 2024. Owners impacted by the recall can expect letters in early February alerting them of the recall and instructions on how to remedy the issue.

What To Do If Your Ford Is Recalled

Ford is still developing a remedy for this recall, but historically, the manufacturer has repaired issues like these free of charge. In the meantime, you should probably limit how often you drive. Ford warns in the recall brief that “if you experience a bouncy ride, noise, or leaking fluid near the rear wheels,” it could be a sign that an external reservoir is about to separate.

If you think your Ford Bronco is impacted by this recall and you have questions or concerns, you can contact Ford’s toll-free customer service line by calling 1-866-436-7332). You can also contact your local Ford or Lincoln dealer for more information.

Honda recently announced a recall of hundreds of thousands of its vehicles due to a software error that puts them at a higher risk of crashing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a brief explaining the problem and the risks it poses when left unaddressed.

If you own a Honda vehicle, pay close attention to the NHTSA brief as well as any communications from Honda. Software issues like the one causing this recall can be incredibly dangerous and should be remedied as quickly as possible.

Why Are These Honda Vehicles Being Recalled?

According to the NHTSA brief, the affected Hondas have “a software error in the fuel injection electronic control unit (FI-ECU).” A faulty FI-ECU “may cause an engine stall or a loss of power.” Stalled engines are bad enough when you’re struggling to change gears on a manual transmission; they’re even worse when they’re caused by something entirely out of your control.

Which Hondas Are Being Recalled?

Honda is recalling nearly 300,000 vehicles including:

  • 2022 Acura MDX Type-S
  • 2023 Acura MDX Type-S
  • 2024 Acura MDX Type-S
  • 2025 Acura MDX Type-S
  • 2023 Honda Pilot
  • 2024 Honda Pilot
  • 2025 Honda Pilot
  • 2021 Acura TLX Type-S
  • 2022 Acura TLX Type-S
  • 2023 Acura TLX Type-S
  • 2024 Acura TLX Type-S
  • 2025 Acura TLX Type-S

If you own one of the vehicles on the list, keep an eye on your mailbox. Honda will mail letters to the impacted owners in mid-March 2025. Refrain from driving your vehicle as much as possible until it is repaired. The NHTSA warns that “an engine stall or loss of power can increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

What to Do If Your Honda Is Recalled

Honda dealers will reprogram the faulty FI-ECU software free of charge. Follow the instructions in your owner letter and get this problem remedied as soon as you are able.

If you have further questions about this recall or don’t want to wait for your letter before learning more, you can reach Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138. If you call them, be sure to clarify that you’re asking about recalls EL1 and AL0. You can also call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236; their number for this recall is 25V031000.

While it’s difficult to definitively rank a car’s safety features from most to least important, it’s safe to say that airbags and seatbelts are certainly some of the most important out there. If either of these features fails, your risk of serious injury or death skyrockets. Unfortunately, that’s what Kia America (Kia) is contending with. They recently announced a recall of tens of thousands of their Kia SUVs due to airbag and seatbelt issues.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a brief summarizing the issues and proposed repairs. We’ve parsed it for you so that you can quickly get all your answers.

Why Are These Kia SUVs Being Recalled?

According to the NHTSA brief, this recall involves an electrical problem. “The floor wiring assembly beneath the front passenger seat may become damaged,” they detail. Which Kia SUVs Are Being Recalled?

Over 80,000 Kia SUVs are included in this recall, including:

  • 2023 Niro EV
  • 2024 Niro EV
  • 2025 Niro EV
  • 2023 Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
  • 2024 Niro PHEV
  • 2025 Niro PHEV

Kia will mail letters to the affected owners in mid-March 2025. If you own one of the above vehicles, keep an eye on your mailbox and exercise caution while driving.

63,000 Jeep Cherokees Recalled Over Dangerous Defect https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/jeep-cherokee-recall/ Fri, 24 Jan 2025 20:42:57 +0000 Is your Jeep on the recall list? Find out now and take action to stay safe.

The post 63,000 Jeep Cherokees Recalled Over Dangerous Defect appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
If you drive a Jeep, there’s a critical recall you need to be aware of to stay safe on the road. On Jan. 16, Stellantis (the parent company of Chrysler) announced a recall of some Jeep vehicles due to a defect that can cause the cars to lose drive power. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this recall, from whether your car is on the list to what to do if it is.

What Cars Are Being Recalled?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s brief announcing this recall, Stellantis is recalling 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokees.

The recall affects 63,082 Jeep Cherokees. Stellantis will send ownership letters informing owners of the recall by mid-February.

Why Are These Cars Being Recalled?

Stellantis is recalling these cars because they may have been built with an improperly seated input shaft snap ring in the power transfer unit (PTU). According to the NHTSA brief, “An input shaft snap ring that is not fully seated may allow uncontrolled movement of the input shaft inward.”

This defect could eventually lead to “wear to the range shift sleeve, spline damage, and/or range fork damage,” the NHTSA report reads. This could ultimately result in the loss of drive power or the ability to shift into park, greatly increasing the risk of a crash.

What To Do If My Car Is Recalled

A remedy for this recall has yet to be finalized, though, historically, Stellantis provides repairs for their vehicles impacted by recalls free of charge. For updates on the remedy for this recall, keep an eye out for a letter from Stellantis with more details to hit your mailbox in mid-February. In the meantime, you can contact Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403 if you have any questions. (The number for this recall is 01C.)

Ford Recalls 270,000 Cars Over Defective Batteries https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/ford-bronco-sport-battery-recall/ Fri, 24 Jan 2025 18:06:31 +0000 Ford has announced a recall of several hundred thousand vehicles due to an issue stemming from faulty batteries.

The post Ford Recalls 270,000 Cars Over Defective Batteries appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
Important news for Ford owners: The Ford Motor Company recently announced a recall of over 270,000 vehicles due to battery issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explains that certain Ford vehicles have faulty batteries that can make them incredibly dangerous, both for the driver and for other drivers on the road.

Take steps to remedy this problem as quickly as possible; faulty batteries are a huge problem. You know what a pain it is to try to turn your car on when the battery is dead; this issue is even worse because it can happen while the car is still running.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Being Recalled

According to the NHTSA brief, the faulty battery issue could affect over 270,000 Ford vehicles, including:

  • 2021 Bronco Sport SUV
  • 2022 Bronco Sport SUV
  • 2023 Bronco Sport SUV
  • 2022 Maverick Trucks
  • 2023 Maverick Trucks

Ford has said that they will be mailing out owner letters in early February of 2025, so if you own one of the vehicles on this list, keep an eye on your mailbox. The letter will give you further instructions on how to remedy the problem.

Why Is Ford Recalling These Vehicles

The NHTSA brief explains that the faulty batteries in these Ford vehicles “may experience degradation and suddenly fail.” If the battery fails, it “can result in a loss of electrical accessories, including the hazard lights, or cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Avoid driving your vehicle as much as possible until you can repair it. A suddenly failing battery is incredibly dangerous for both you and the other drivers on the road.

How to Remedy the Faulty Batteries

Ford has announced that dealers will inspect and replace the faulty 12-volt batteries free of charge. The NHTSA brief also notes that these vehicles “were previously repaired under 24V-267 and will need to have the new remedy completed.” So, even if you’ve already had your vehicle repaired previously, confirm whether you’ve had the most current repair.

If you have further questions or don’t want to wait for your owner letter to arrive, you can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. When you call, be sure to specify that you’re asking about recall number 25S02. You can also contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236; the recall number is 25V019000.

Kia Recalls 75,000 SUVs Over Dangerous Light Defect https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/kia-sorento-light-failure-recall/ Wed, 22 Jan 2025 18:52:47 +0000 https://www.familyhandyman.com/?p=657437 Kia Motors, Inc. recently announced a recall of nearly 75,000 of its SUVs due to a dangerous light-failure risk.

The post Kia Recalls 75,000 SUVs Over Dangerous Light Defect appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
We often take some of the most important features in our cars for granted until they fail. Most modern cars have the option to have your headlights and taillights turn on automatically, further moving them to the back of your mind. But when they fail, it can be downright dangerous. Kia America, Inc. (Kia) just announced a recall of tens of thousands of their SUVs due to a light-failure risk. Here, we break down the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall brief so you know the important details and you can act accordingly.

Why Are These Kia SUVs Being Recalled?

The NHTSA brief warns that the affected Kias have “a software error in the Body Domain Control Unit (BDC),” which “may cause a loss of low beam headlights and taillights.” Not only is this dangerous-the brief warns that “a loss of headlights and taillights can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash,” but it also puts the vehicles out of compliance with important safety standards.

Which Kia Vehicles Have This Light-Failure Risk?

Nearly 75,000 Kia SUVs have this software error and are therefore considered a light-failure risk. If you own any of the following vehicles, you may be impacted:

  • 2024 Sorento
  • 2025 Sorento
  • 2025 Sorento Hybrid
  • 2025 Sorento Plug-In Hybrid

Kia has said that they will mail out owner letters to the affected owners in February 2025, so if you own an impacted vehicle, you’ll have instructions for the fix. But until you can get this light-failure risk remedied, avoid driving the vehicle as much as possible, especially after dark. Failing lights mean that other drivers can’t see you or react nearly as quickly.

What To Do If You Own an Impacted Kia

Kia has announced that it will remedy the problem by updating the BDC software at no cost to the owners. Your owner letter will have the important information about how this will work, but if you have further questions or don’t want to wait, you can call the NHTSA or Kia customer service. The NHTSA hotline is 1-888-327-4236, and their recall number for this issue is 25V006000. If you’d prefer to call Kia directly, you can call their customer service line at 1-800-333-4542. If you opt for Kia, then you’ll need to cite that you’re inquiring about recall number SC331.

The post Major Recall Issued for 300,000+ Faulty Smoke Alarms appeared first on Family Handyman.

]]>
A recent recall involving a popular fire alarm model is of grave concern to anyone who cares about home safety, seeing as a significant malfunction could prevent them from alerting you of a fire (which defeats the entire purpose of the product, huh?). With over 300,000 units affected, this is a recall you cannot afford to ignore.

Read on to learn which smoke alarms are affected, why they’re being recalled, and what steps you should take if your device is part of this urgent recall.

What Fire Alarms Are Being Recalled?

This recall involves Samurai Mini Smoke Alarms (the model number, which is located on the product’s packaging, is SM1) manufactured by Three61 LLC. The alarms are about 2.5 x 2×5 inches and silver and white. This recall affects about 328,000 alarms sold between July 2020 and November 2024 through HSN (formerly Home Shopping Network) and on HSN.com.

Why Are These Fire Alarms Being Recalled?

According to the CPSC, “The smoke alarms can malfunction and fail to alert consumers of a fire, posing a risk of smoke inhalation or death.” The detectors were tested by the CPSC, and one failed to issue an alert when exposed to smoke.

While eight reports have been made of the alarms failing to activate when exposed to smoke, no injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.

What To Do If My Fire Alarm Is Recalled

Three61 LLC will replace all defective fire alarms (and provide free shipping to boot). If your alarm is part of the recall, write the word “Recalled” in permanent marker on the alarm and submit a photo of the marked alarm through the recall website. Once submitted, Three61 will send you a replacement alarm. (NOTE: Three61 advises customers to keep the defective alarm installed until they receive their replacement and install it immediately upon receipt.)

Once your new fire alarm is installed, dispose of your old alarm, complying with any local and state ordinances regarding the disposal of lithium-ion batteries.

If you have any questions regarding this recall, contact Three61 via email at recall@samuraibrands.com or online at www.samuraibrands.com/recall for more information.

Chervon North America recently announced a recall of 63,000 SKIL 40V 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion Batteries due to what the company describes as “fire and burn hazards.” According to Chervon, consumers should immediately stop using the battery and contact Chervon in order to receive either a refund or a replacement battery.

These particular SKIL 40V batteries are made to be used with SKIL 40V Brushless 20-in Push Lawnmowers and any of the tools that run off SKIL’s 40V battery platform. Crucially, this recall impacts only SKIL 40V 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion Batteries manufactured before May 1, 2021.

The recall report states that 100 reports of thermal incidents involving these batteries have been reported, including cases where the battery overheated, melted, and/or produced smoke or fire. Of those reported cases, only eight involved reports of minor burns and smoke inhalation, while 49 resulted in related property damage.

To find out if a battery you own is potentially dangerous, check its manufacturing date code against the list of recalled batteries (which can be found on the CPSC website here).

If you are one of the consumers impacted by this recall, register for the recall online at www.skil.com/recalls. Chervon will provide a battery collection kit you can use to return the recalled battery. Upon the return of your recalled battery, Chervon will then either send you a replacement or a refund.

If you’re a John Deere lawn mower owner, a recent recall impacting certain ZTrak Zero Turn Mower models will be of great concern to you, as it concerns potential safety risks. The issue involves the Kawasaki motors within the mowers, which have a defect that could pose a fire hazard during use or even when the mower is stored.

While no injuries have been reported, some worrying incidents linked to this defect have occurred, making it essential to act if your mower is affected. Read on to find out which models are included in the recall and how to handle the situation if you’re impacted.

What John Deere Mowers Are Being Recalled?

Kawasaki Motors reports five fires and 26 instances of melting and/or smoking connected to this issue, but no injuries have been reported.
